Krissy Matthews Trio
KRISSY MATTHEWS TRIO
UK, BLUES, ROCK
It was 1995, Krissy was 3 years old and his father invited him on stage to play along to Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.
This is when the story started for British Norwegian Krissy Matthews.
Now at 28 years old, he has gained a reputation as being one of the most unique guitarists the 21st century has seen.
He received his first electric guitar at the age of 8 and spent 2 years learning the Hank Marvin & The Shadows songbook.
Then by the age of 11 during a family holiday in Norway, he discovered the blues.
In Summer 2004, The Godfather of British Blues John Mayall invited Krissy to perform 2 songs with him two nights running at Notodden Blues Festival, Norway. The opening act was Peter Green & Friends. Not a bad beginning for someone so young!
July 2005, made his first studio record. This was entitled Blues Boy and released via Norwegian label Via Music.
March 2006, was invited to meet BB King where he received advice on the industry.
May 2007, played 2 songs live with Jeff Healey. The last person to share the stage with Mr Healey in the UK.
May 2008, quit school and became a full time professional musician at the age of 16.
Summer 2009, Marshall asked Krissy to perform with his band for a launch party at Ronnie Scott’s opening for Joe Bonamassa.
An invite to record a live session for BBC Radio 2 was a result of this.
Spent the next years continuously touring through Europe in a trusty Ford Transit Van.
This included performing at Museumsplatz, Bonn, Germany on the bill together with Tedeschi Trucks Band and Gregg Allman.
One year later, Krissy opened up for TOTO in Cologne Tanzbrunnen, as well as numerous UK club/festival shows and a first tour of Spain!
UK festivals included Giants of Rock (Minehead), Rock & Blues Fest (Skegness), Maryport Blues (Cumbria) & Colne Blues (Lancs).
In January 2013, Krissy recorded a studio album entitled “Scenes from A Moving Window”.
The poet and lyricist Pete Brown (Cream) co-wrote most of the album.
After some contract complications, this was finally released in Spring 2015 via UK label Proper Records.
June 2014, he was invited to play at the legendary Loreley Classic Rock Festival, alongside Joe Bonamassa and Joe Satriani.
September 2015, the legendary German outfit Hamburg Blues Band invited Krissy to join the band.
(He is still a core member to this day in 2021 with extensive touring.)
He is a featured guest each night along side other great artists such as Maggie Bell, Chris Farlowe and Arthur Brown.
June 2016, Mort Productions contacted Krissy and he embarked on his first Asian tour culminating with 15 shows in 15 days in China.
What an experience! This summer tour ended with a show at the very famous Zwarte Cross Festival in Netherlands.
April 2017, released his first live album entitled “Live at Freak Valley” to critical acclaim.
This was recorded at the bands fabulous performance at Germanys iconic Stoner Rock festival Freak Valley.
July 2018, Krissy was part of Herzberg Blues All Stars. They headlined the legendary Burg Herzberg festival in front of 20,000 people.
The line up included Clem Clempson, Mark Clarke, Arthur Brown, Maggie Bell, Chris Farlowe and Hamburg Blues Band.
March 21, 2019, Krissy and his band performed at the legendary and famous Rockpalast Festival in Bonn, Germany.
This was aired on German national TV in May 2019, and will be released as a live CD/DVD package in Spring 2022.
March 22, 2019, Krissy’s latest studio album “Monster In Me” was released worldwide via MIG Music.
This was a collaboration in songwriting together with Baard Torstensen (Clawfinger) and Pete Brown.
It has had tremendous reviews and feedback. The best album to date Krissy has made by far.
Just before the Corona Virus pandemic struck, Krissy had a completely full calendar of shows together with Hamburg Blues Band and his own trio Krissy Matthews Band. Unfortunately, like all other bands, he suffered with every show being cancelled.
He found comfort in song writing and volunteering.
A new studio record has been finished during the pandemic in October 2020 and will be released in Autumn 2021.
In amongst all this, Krissy has paid his dues performing over 1000 concerts in many countries including U.K, Scandinavia, Benelux, Eastern Europe, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Russia and China.
Continues to share touring duties between Hamburg Blues Band and his solo career.
